Well,

SpenPicture 060ding the day with Tony Horton and about 325 other people interested in either getting fit or keeping fit and living a healthy lifestyle was just an amazing experience!

The event was very well organized by Tony Horton’s sister Kit which I’m sure really took some planning to pull everything off without a hitch. Along with having Tony there to give his seminar and workouts he also had his full time chef Melissa Costello there to talk about learning to eat for optimal health and wellness. So there was so much to enjoy and take in so much so unless you taped the whole day it’s tough to think of all the stuff that was done and discussed.

All of the seminars and talks took place inside the college auditorium and all of the workouts took place outside under this huge tent which was a very cool experience, it was an absolutely beautiful day weather wise. Having Tony lead the workouts front and center under the tent with all of the other people was just cool in every way, something I had never experienced before and something I hope I can certainly experience again!

We were lucky enough to do not just one but two P90X workouts, the morning workout was a cardio based workout with a mix of just about everything , kicking, punching, plank work, jumping and on and on. Reminded me of a mix between the P90X workout Plyometrics and cardio X.

The second worPicture 064kout “YOGA” came in the afternoon and this one certainly isn’t my strong suit but I just showed up and did my best. Man let me tell you for those that never tried Yoga before – wow you need to! Although I’m as flexible as the tin man it is one incredible workout, you wouldn’t think just holding positions would be tough - HA! give it a try I was dripping in sweat just trying to make it through. For those of you that would feel funny about trying it at a Yoga studio for the first time (like me) P90X has a kick ass Yoga workout that you can do right in your own living room so you won’t feel embarrassed when you don’t make it 20 minutes in:) This P90X workout really gives you a taste what it’s all about and Tony SWEARS by this workout which he calls the fountain of youth!

So before I go I have to say this, if there is a Beachbody event taking place anywhere around where you live – GO! Whether you are a Beachbody coach, customer or neither you need to go to one of these events and meet the different people and feel the energy, it will be the best day you’ve had in some time I promise.  The seminars are very motivating and informative as well = ) Knowledge is POWER!

I will be putting together a short video with clips from this great day that I will be posting soon so keep checking back for that ; )

I will also be sending out in my next newsletter Tony Horton’s “11 laws of health and fitness” which I got directly from the man himself so you definitely don’t want to miss that, just get signed up for my free newsletter above to enjoy it! :)

Till next time…..

tony horton1 Tony Horton A day of P90X and Fun!Well I only have 1 more day left to the big day! What? What big day? Let me tell ya, I recently found out that the man himself Tony Horton is coming to a college in a nearby town where I live for  full day of P90X seminars and workouts. Woohoo! count me in, I couldn’t sign up quick enough I feel like a kid the night before Christmas.

I will be lucky enough to have a early morning workout along with about 350 other people, enjoying seminars have lunch and then have a afternoon yoga workout with Tony Horton. Best yet at the end of the day you get to meet Tony and have your picture taken with him, I just think being able to meet him will help keep me motivated and pushing forward with my workouts as well as my coaching business. I really admire what Tony has done and how he has done it, he seems like a very cool down to earth guy. I really wonder if this guy bleeds? Watching him do pull-ups I swear he’s a robot so maybe I’ll be able to confirm that at the Saturday event?

For those of you that don’t know Tony or who he is (I’m not sure there are any people out there that have not heard of him) the creator and mastermind behind the P90 at home workout program and the ever popular P90X program. With the company Beachbody teaming up with Tony to help get this amazing workout program put together and advertised so that they could bring to us. I personally never heard of Tony Horton or Beachbody for that matter before I got my copy of P90X and saw what it was all about.

Tony and Beachbody’s CEO Mr. Carl Daikeler has literally helped changed so many lives so quickly it really pretty amazing, just log into Beachbody’s website and check out the THOUSANDS of people and see for yourself the one’s that have made the commitment, did the hard work and finished one these programs and have dropped an amazing amount of weight beacuse of it – it’s really amazing and very motivating as well.

So I will let you know how the event goes and I will also be posting some pictures and videos as well.

Till then…..

Keep working hard to reach YOUR goals!

Hey guys,

I just want to fill you in on something that you may be missing out on; I know you might think I’m crazy for mentioning this but here me out.

TurboJam 150x150 Turbo Jam by Beachbody Just for the ladies? For the past week I have been struggling with some knee pain that developed right when I got back home from my business trip to Cyprus which is how I think my issue arose in the first place – from the long flights. Anyhow when I got home I tried various workouts that would allow me to get through them without causing me pain (more than there already was) or injuring myself further something that is the last thing I want, it’s never fun having to deal with an injury of any type on any level!

I say all this because that is why I decided to take a look at Beachbody’s Turbo Jam program one of which I have owned for a few months now but have not even looked at it yet because I have been busy with my other Beachbody workouts and coaching business and also probably much like yourself I always thought Turbo Jam was intended purely for the ladies full of dance moves anyhow – but maybe not so=)

Turbo Jam has been around for some time now with the ever energetic creator Chalene Johnson. Since Turbo JAM and ChaLEAN Extreme she has just put out her newest workout “Turbo FIRE” which looks really Chalene Johnsonintense especially now that Beachbody has caught up to the times and put in some “good workout music” into the workouts. If you have not seen the trailer for TurboFIRE yet then just click here for a sneak peek, I think you’ll agree with me that whether you’re male or female this looks like a kickass workout. And let me tell ya Chalene is not too tough on the eyes either:)

Alright, back to the topic at hand I am not doing the Turbo Jam program from beginning to end I am merely testing the waters to see if this program interests me and to just get a feel for what it’s all about. So far I have just watched the learn & burn cd as well as the 20 minute workout. I actually tried the training workout on the learn & burn cd in which Chalene shows you her (11) elite moves that she uses throughout her workouts. I’ll tell you what just the way she has you posture and tuck your pelvis while doing these moves I could really feel it in my abs and core!

It was actually pretty cool because it really wasn’t what I though it was going to be like. Chalene had done some mixed martial arts training in the past so she wanted to incorporate part of that style into her workouts BUT she also did dance too so I’ll have to see what the other workouts are like. I for one am the last one who wants to do any dance moves of any sort as part of my daily exercise so I will check out the rest of this program and let you know what it’s like and what I honestly think.

This might be one of those programs that can get that stubborn fat off and get the job done that many people may have overlooked? Stay tuned I’ll certainly let you know.

Till next time…..

Take care,

p90x ProgramHi all,

Just a short but important message for you today, I have put together a new video discussing the p90x program and exactly what p90x equipment you will need to get started on your new journey to better health and fitness.

You will need a bit more than just the P90X program itself but not to worry you truly won’t need to go out and buy yourself a small gym to do this program. Some pieces of equipment are certainly optional depending on personal preference but other pieces are a must have. I know that they do mention what you’ll need some equipment in the infomercials but for the most part I don’t think people (including myself) really understand what they will need while ordering the program until it has arrived to their home and they read through the program information.

I know that with plunking down your hard earned money on a fitness program not knowing or expecting to have to run out and need to purchase more items other than the program itself  just so you can get the ball rolling can be a little frustrating and is probably not exactly what you really want to do.

So I thought this video would be a great idea and would help inform you of exactly what’s needed and what is not. So if you have already ordered the program you can get yourself set-up before your dvd’s arrive or if you haven’t yet decided on trying P90X because you think you don’t have or don’t want to spend a lot of money on the extra equipment required for the program this information may just help you make your decision=)

Enjoy your journey to better health!!

 Take care of yourself….

Well thankfully it’s here (well I’m hoping where your located it showed up as well). Yup, summer has finally arrived here seemed like at times it would never get here.

You know it’s here for sure because everywhere you are no matter what your doing you can smell the aroma of the grills fired up and cooking all sorts of great foods:) aahhhh!! o.k. enough of that it’s making me hungry.

familycookout1 150x150 Fitness gains Dont let your barbecues sabotage them! What I want to share with you in this post is some tips and ideas on how you can enjoy cooking outdoors through the best season of the year and without derailing your fitness gains and all of your hard work you have put into getting yourself in shape. I know I know it’s almost impossible to pass up that tasty hot dog in a toasted roll along with a nice icy cold beverage=) Like I’ve said many times before, its o.k. to splurge here and there as long as you keep it to that day and then you get yourself back into your workout/eating clean routine pronto.

A tip before you hit those family barbecues, try working out before you go to your cookout this will surely make you think twice before hitting the dessert table like it’s your last meal. Just the thought of doing that P90X Plyometric workout or that Insanity workout for nothing will certainly make you think twice. Just be sure to have your recovery drink after your workout or it could leave you very hungry going to your barbecue and turn you into a ravenous dog! At least that’s how I feel after a very strenuous Beachbody workout – what? you don’t use it? then you are missing out on a great product, want more information on it? just click here (you’ll be happy you did).

Along with that advice here a few more helpful hints that will help make your cookout enjoyable without guilt and without feeling your missing the fun boat.

  • Burgers – if you’re craving to have that burger then try some of the leaner selections, I typically use the not less than 85% or 93% lean ground beef. It’s nice when grilling because you don’t get all the fat dripping off and causing those annoying flare-ups. Or better yet try having a turkey burger they are actually pretty good! Again just check the labels because some can contain ground up skin and other fatty pieces, look for the extra lean or ground turkey breast.
  • For steak lovers, try sticking to the leaner cuts of meat such as loin or round. Other lean cuts include flank steak, skirt steak and london broil.   Due to the leanness and low fat of these steaks it’s best to marinate the meat for a couple hours before grilling, just be careful and read the labels – most store bought barbecue and teriyaki sauces are loaded with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). If you care about your health this is one ingredient you want to stay a mile away from. As far as pork goes the leaner cuts you can get are the tenderloin and loin chops.
  • Easy does it on the starches! Especially the potato and pasta salads, plus these type of salads are loaded with brutally fatty mayo. An alternative may be to have some sliced up tomatoes & cucumbers and mix them with some vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice, onions or garlic. And don’t forget to use whole grain wheat buns, they are so much better for you than the “white buns”.
  • Veggies - my favorite way to enjoy them is to have some onion with green and red peppers on a chicken kabob – yum! or of course a nice fresh garden salad with just a little bit of low fat dressing is always a good choice.
  • And to finish off my cookout survival list are the condiments. Try using low fat cheese (or none at all) and go easy on the ketchup which is loaded with corn syrup.

I’m not here to ruin your barbecues like a pack of hungry mosquitoes but just to give you some tips to make it enjoyable and healthy! It’s all the little things that can add up and destroy all of your hard work (especially as we get older – I HATE that word) and send you into the vicious tail spin, don’t let that happen to you.

So that’s it – flip the burgers and lets eat:)

Till next time……

Take care of yourself.

Hi all,

Well I just got back this past weekend from an overseas business trip. I had to go to the island of Cyprus, what did you say? “were in the hell is that” yep good question. I didn’t know it existed either until we got a project there (Many people think it’s located in Greece which it’s not). It is an island in the Mediterranean just to the south of turkey and to the northwest of Israel. mediterranean map

I did not take my workout dvd’s with me although they did have a small workout room located in the hotel where we stayed (which I didn’t even step into). It was my second trip over there and frankly it was all business. For many reasons I was just not motivated to workout there, I said to myself I would save that for when I got back home.

Picture taken from my hotel
Picture taken from my hotel

I think my lack of enthusiasm to workout was a combination of things such as jet lag, being in such a different environment, out every night eating and drinking things I usually don’t eat or drink when I’m home. You just don’t have the luxury of preparing your own meals as simple as they may be (no Shakeology or smoothies) - your at the mercy of airport, airline, hotel and local restaurant foods. Heh, not the best choices but you have to eat something:(

Needless to say I quickly put on a couple pounds and felt very bloated! I keep telling myself no worries as soon as I get home I’ll just dive right back into my usual workout routine and feel more like myself.

Well great idea but my body had other ideas, the day after returning home I was sitting in my chair working at the computer getting caught up with all my emails when I felt this pressure/tension in my right knee. I went to extend my leg to stretch it out to relieve the tension when I heard “crack” and immediately felt pain coming from the top of my knee cap! Oh oh – great I wasn’t or didn’t even have the chance to workout and now I’m out of commission!! I believe the problem originated from the airline flights, we all know how comfortable they can be sitting in hour after hour:(

Not what I wanted or expected to have this happen, well now it’s been (3) days now and after having seen the doctor and having the ice pack on it is slowly feeling better. Kind of a bizarre thing to have happen but unfortunately things like this happens to all of us from time to time and though you feel like your quickly losing ground sitting there idle it’s certainly best to wait till you know for sure your body is ready before you get back into your usual workout routine.

So with any luck I will be doing some upper body workouts tonight and I’ll have to see when my knee will feel up for a light workout. Always keep your head up and stay positive, it’s the little bumps in the road that can put you out of commission for a bit but it’s the goals you set for yourself that keep you strong and motivated to keep going – no matter what!

Till next time…..

Take care of yourself.
