Hi all,
Well I just got back this past weekend from an overseas business trip. I had to go to the island of Cyprus, what did you say? “were in the hell is that” yep good question. I didn’t know it existed either until we got a project there (Many people think it’s located in Greece which it’s not). It is an island in the Mediterranean just to the south of turkey and to the northwest of Israel.
I did not take my workout dvd’s with me although they did have a small workout room located in the hotel where we stayed (which I didn’t even step into). It was my second trip over there and frankly it was all business. For many reasons I was just not motivated to workout there, I said to myself I would save that for when I got back home.
I think my lack of enthusiasm to workout was a combination of things such as jet lag, being in such a different environment, out every night eating and drinking things I usually don’t eat or drink when I’m home. You just don’t have the luxury of preparing your own meals as simple as they may be (no Shakeology or smoothies) - your at the mercy of airport, airline, hotel and local restaurant foods. Heh, not the best choices but you have to eat something:(
Needless to say I quickly put on a couple pounds and felt very bloated! I keep telling myself no worries as soon as I get home I’ll just dive right back into my usual workout routine and feel more like myself.
Well great idea but my body had other ideas, the day after returning home I was sitting in my chair working at the computer getting caught up with all my emails when I felt this pressure/tension in my right knee. I went to extend my leg to stretch it out to relieve the tension when I heard “crack” and immediately felt pain coming from the top of my knee cap! Oh oh – great I wasn’t or didn’t even have the chance to workout and now I’m out of commission!! I believe the problem originated from the airline flights, we all know how comfortable they can be sitting in hour after hour:(
Not what I wanted or expected to have this happen, well now it’s been (3) days now and after having seen the doctor and having the ice pack on it is slowly feeling better. Kind of a bizarre thing to have happen but unfortunately things like this happens to all of us from time to time and though you feel like your quickly losing ground sitting there idle it’s certainly best to wait till you know for sure your body is ready before you get back into your usual workout routine.
So with any luck I will be doing some upper body workouts tonight and I’ll have to see when my knee will feel up for a light workout. Always keep your head up and stay positive, it’s the little bumps in the road that can put you out of commission for a bit but it’s the goals you set for yourself that keep you strong and motivated to keep going – no matter what!
Till next time…..
Take care of yourself.
