P90X – My review and summary (See below for P90X videos )

P90X is simply one of the best at home exercise programs that I have ever done. Though not easy to complete the full 90 days of uninterrupted exercise, especially for parents with all the typical chores and daily responsibilities one has to deal with but this program is certainly not impossible and very much within your reach!. If you can see this program through the whole way with all your best effort it certainly will not disappoint! Many people have had great success including myself and so can you!

The results are really pretty amazing! I have never gotten such results from any other workout program I’ve done in the past based on the same length of time of 90 days.

The program is divided into three phases, phase I, phase II & phase III. Each phase has its own set of workouts and eating plan, this is where the “muscle confusion” comes in that they refer to so much in their infomercial. The program changes every 30 days to keep your body guessing and guess what? IT WORKS!  I have added the exercise plan Phase I to give you an idea on just how they mix up the workouts.

P90X also offers three different ways to use this program, which are:

Classic, This is the version most people choose.

Doubles, This plan is intended for those who want some extra cardiovascular exercise either for performance or weight loss thrown into the program. This version is VERY intense and should only be attempted by someone completely free of injury and have plenty of energy to add another workout to the schedule three or four days a week.

Lean, This plan is for those who want more of a cardio based and slightly less intensive program.

 What you get:

The package comes with a set of (1) intro video & (12) workout cds including:

 - Intro video

- Chest and back

- Plyometrics

- Shoulders and Arms

- Yoga

- Legs & back

- Kenpo X

- X Stretch

- Core Synergistics

- Chest, Shoulders & Triceps

- Back & Biceps

- Cardio X

-AB Ripper X

- P90X Nutrition guide

- P90X Workout sheets to record your workouts and progress!

-P90X Calendar to track your daily workouts

The workouts:

Most of the workouts run about 60 minutes except Yoga X which is 90 minutes, this time includes the warm-up and cool down. The workouts move along at a quick pace which is fine because you can just hit the pause button for a break if needed. All the workouts are challenging due to the fact that you can make the workout as intense to your liking and ability.

Though the Plyometrics workout was a TOUGH one for me, over time as I got better and stronger at it I actually now enjoy this workout! The cardio X workout is included in this program in case the Plyometrics workout is a little too intense but don’t think Cardio X is easy by any means. I really like this workout as well because they throw in a little bit of each workout such as Yoga, Plyo, and Kenpo to name a few.

As you go through this program everyone seems to have their favorite workout.

What equipment you will need:

As far as equipment goes you will need very little equipment to get an intense workout. So let’s get going!

The must have equipment:

1. Determination! Determination! The will to prove to yourself that you can do it no matter how tough it gets, and I won’t kid you it is TOUGH!:) It will challenge you to the point where you don’t think you can do it but trust me stick with it and keep going. Like you will here Tony say over and over on the workouts just do your best and forget the rest. You will get stronger each time you do it – just be patient.

2. The P90X program, if you have not ordered it yet do so ASAP.

3. A DVD player for playing the exercise disks.

4. Not much room is required, an open area approximately 6’ x 6’ should do fine for doing all your push ups, lunges etc.

5. A chin up bar, a must have! You will be doing a lot of these as well. Don’t worry if you can’t even do one at this point (I couldn’t). They will show you the assisted type using a chair which works great and you still get a great burn allowing you to slowly build strength. I had mine made at a steel shop where I worked. You can buy one through Beachbody or at your local sporting goods store. Some people prefer to use the bands so you need to decide which is best for you.

6. A pair of dumbbells with various amounts of weights (Quantity of weight depends on your current fitness level). I have 40 pounds on each dumbbell which is enough for me to get me through all my workouts.

Optional equipment:

A. Push up bars. I highly recommend these as they take the stress out of your wrists while doing push-ups. And you will be doing A LOT of them.

B. Yoga mat.

C. Yoga blocks, especially if your not that flexible (like me). These blocks help you maintain certain positions that I wouldn’t be able to do otherwise.

D. Heart rate monitor, again I really recommend this. You want to make sure you are working in your “target zone” do assure you are burning the most fat possible while doing your cardio workouts.

Well that about wraps up my P90X review so if you have any questions at all on this program please feel free to contact me:)
